Our Take:
  • Peugeot's Foray into the Executive Market: The Peugeot 406 made its debut in 1995 and aimed to cater to the executive segment with a mix of European elegance and practicality. The 1998 model came with a facelift that included aesthetic updates and improved engines, making it a notable year for the model. It's a rarity in North America, where Peugeots are as elusive as a snow leopard, primarily because the brand exited the market in the early '90s.
  • V6 Powerplant: The 406 with a V6 engine was considered a step up from the typical four-cylinder models, offering a smoother and more potent driving experience. However, it's noted that this particular unit has an engine miss, which could be an interesting project for someone who enjoys tinkering. The V6 is relatively rare and adds a bit of European flair to the mix—delivering a comfortable cruise reminiscent of a transcontinental train journey.
  • Imported from Japan: It’s intriguing that this Peugeot was brought over from Japan; the Japanese domestic market version often had unique specifications or features not found in European models. Cars imported from Japan usually have a unique service history and might include different options or trim levels. This could also mean that it features the quirky JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) touches that are adored by enthusiasts globally.
  • Classic French Design Cues: Even with damaged bumpers, the 406 exudes the classic French styling of the late '90s, which is understated yet graceful. The clean interior is a nod to Peugeot's attention to comfort and driver-oriented design, something that set it apart from others of its time. Despite its age and condition, it still holds an air of Gallic charm—like a well-aged Bordeaux that tells tales of the past with every sip.
