The C124 chassis E-Class Coupes are becoming more desirable, as they're both uncommon and rather handsome. The iconic W124 series is referred to as the last of the handmade Mercedes-Benz’s. The 300CE was a cost no object design built in Stuttgart, Germany, utilizing the finest craftsmanship and mechanical prowess. Approximately 1302 1991 "pillar less" CE coupes sold in the US establishing them as relatively rare. These were expensive, low-production cars (retailing new for approximately $60,000 in 1991).
Combining efficient, ageless design and a distinctly German take on luxury, the 124 Coupe and Cabriolet are among the Mercedes-Benzes that could truly be considered heirloom-quality.
This low mileage car has been meticulously maintained by a Mercedes-Benz private mechanic in NYC & Sarasota, using only genuine Mercedes parts since purchasing it from its 2nd owner in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2010. Mechanically it is in excellent condition. Everything works. No leaks whatsoever. It was garaged for the first 10 years I owned it in NYC before moving to Florida recently.
Its 24-valve 220 HP M104 double overhead cam 3.0L in-line 6 cylinder is spirited and punchy, easily cruising at 100 MPH+ all day.

Known flaws:
Paint / clear coat on top surfaces could use a refresh - due to sun damage . Small area of rust below passenger side rear tail light (haven’t gotten around to repairing it right as of yet).
Small “dent” gently pushed into rear quarter panel. Nothing major - again haven’t gotten around to it.
Some wear to front leather seats. Could be easily repaired at a car upholsterer.
The upgraded M-B CLK wheels suffered some surface wear. They look great, but if I were to keep it, I’d have them refinished (which I’m told would cost from $50-$100 each). The wheels retailed for $2500.
An associate sold his 300CE a year ago with higher miles but in slightly “prettier” aesthetic condition (minus all of the parts replacements) for $11,200. He was bummed as he felt it should have fetched considerably more. I’m offering mine for $9k. Drive it as it is with its truly classic patina, or restore it as you wish. This car is all sorted out mechanically, has a solid rust free chassis.
From Mercedes-Benz:
"The new coupés of the mid-sized Mercedes class offer a harmonious blend of exclusive form and powerful performance, ground-breaking technology, high safety and economy. The flair of the exceptional with the relaxing comfort of a vehicle that one drives every day and also uses on long journeys. The external lines: sporty elegance – distinct styling, perfectly designed in every detail." This was how the first brochure from 1987 described the series 124 Mercedes-Benz coupé. Looked at today, these words are still appropriate. The only thing one might add is that these are precisely the characteristics that make the coupé a sought-after classic of the brand.
